Our Very Busy Weekend

We had a very busy weekend.

Nicole was invited to a sleep-over birthday part on Friday. The group went to the musical "Wicked" at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas. It's a play from the perspective of what happened "behind the scenes" in the Wizard of Oz. Nicole loved it. It's always an experience to see a "live" play.

Saturday was Christopher's big "Lone Star Challenge" competition. It's an academic competition against all the schools in the district. It's similar to an academic decathlon. We got to watch the "Super Quiz" where they bring students, one at a time from each school to desks on the floor of the big high school gym. They then ask questions orally that the kids answer. Each child answers 7 questions and then they go on to the next child from each school in relay fashion. It was fun to see, but you couldn't tell what answers the kids were giving. Later in the afternoon we attended the awards ceremony. Christopher's school won a bronze metal (3rd) in the Super Quiz. And Christopher won a gold metal with the best scores in his class at his school. As you can imagine I'm quite proud of him.

Between events on Saturday I took Nicole downtown to audition for the all-city children's choir. It's a great opportunity to learn and perform. She may even be able to perform with the Dallas Symphony and Dallas Bach Society at the premiere Meyerson Symphony Center. I though she did very well in her audition, but we won't know what choir she will be assigned (there are several levels) until sometime in June.

Christopher is now mowing our lawn. Hard to believe he's big enough. But he's doing a very good job, missing fewer patches of grass with each mow. It's a big help to me and he earns extra spending money.

The Boy Scout Show is next Saturday so my Webelos den worked on sprucing up our booth for the show. Our booth features an "aircraft carrier" deck. The kids fold paper airplanes and try to land it on the deck. I had my boys paint backdrops for the aircraft carrier to make it appear to be out at sea. it was funny to see what the boys painted. Tsunami waves, crashing airplanes, the works.
